Brown rot and branch dieback
Brown rot and branch dieback of stone fruit (Monilia laxa)
Brown rot in stone fruit is caused by the two fungi Monilia frutigena and Monilia laxa. In addition to the fruit, Monilia laxa also infects the wood, causing branch dieback or terminal dieback. The efficacy of preparations against M. laxa is tested on wounded cherries. The wounds are inoculated with conidia from M. laxa and develop rot spots depending on the effectiveness of the treatment.
